Reservation: Not a cure

Quota: A cure worse than the disease

This was a nice colomn from rediff written by Vinod Ramanan.

He has summed it up in the best way possible and I totally agree with him.

As he has pointed it out, ofcourse, we need reservations to met out the indifferences in our societies. We need to tackle them in a way the problem gets solved as well as it doesn't pop up in future in any other form. Now, with the introduction of reservation, it is like LeT changing its name and proping up in another form. Now, instead of bring up the socially downtrodden to the same level as others, it is weaking others in the process. We need policies which are based on economically backward and not on the basis of birth.

Ofcourse, there was a grave mistake practised in the past. Untouchability and similar othesrs were practised in the past. But, instead of chopping it out and bringing everyone on the same platform with a specific deadline, they are infact turning the tables the other way?

Is ragging the juniours justified just because they were ragged by their seniors the previous year ?

Earlier the mandal commision was introduced and reservations started telling that they will be there for 10 years time. Then, the next 10 years. And now, they have again extended for the next 10 years. Slowly poisoning in every walks of life. Is it justified ?

Some of the downtrodden and most backward classes were benefitted and have joined the main stream becasue of reservations. Agreed. And in a way they are justified. But, shud it creep into every field and every walks of life? I beg to say NO. Not because I am from a forward cast by birth, but beacuse I prefer to call a spade a spade.

Will any of us undergo a critical operation with a doctor if you come to know that he got the medical seat inspite of getting a very poor marks just because of his birth ? Even his own son won't. Why? b'cos its a life and death problem. Atleast these kinda areas shud be left for merit alone.

TN has already reached 69 % reservation. There is not enough space anymore. The nadar community has decieded to support ADMK in the forth coming elections and has demanded JJ to announce their community as OBC. Shame on U?

India shud commit suicide if someone calls us as backward. Doesn't it apply to every self-respecting man ?

Since nobody wants to remove reservations, the only way out is to make every caste a backward caste including chettiars and brahmins. That way, since every one is on a level playing field, there will be merit once again.
